Calumet College of St. Joseph Hosts “The Art of Felix Maldonado” Exhibit

Maldonado-01Calumet College of St. Joseph is proud to announce the upcoming exhibit, “The Art of Felix Maldonado - Graffiti aHead”. The exhibit will run from September 10th through October 2nd and a reception will be held on Wednesday, September 10th from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Black Box Lobby, located on the second floor of the College.

Mr. Maldonado is an artist in every sense of the word. His passion and enthusiasm for this subject is evident in everything he makes. One particular body of work that demonstrates many of his abilities and could quite possibly be his strongest work is a series of portraits of graffiti artists entitled: “Graffiti aHead.”

Ms. Linda Dorman, art facilitator and activist, said this of Mr. Maldonado: “As a fellow graffiti artist of 25+ years, he has chosen these people to paint because of his admiration and respect for not only the culture but for documentary reasons as well. This comes across in the work in various ways, first and foremost the size of the works.” “These larger than life portraits command attention and respect, which Felix bestows upon these people. The detail in the faces of the subjects is made with care but also with a spontaneous and physical manner synonymous to the medium they all use; the spray can. Using this medium, he ties each other to the tradition of graffiti art.”
