CSA Valpo Launches New Initiative to Support Local Artists with Innovative Purchase Program

CSArt-logoOver the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same “buy local” spirit in mind, the Community Supported Art (CSA) Valpo project aims to support local art, artists and collectors. This local initiative is modeled on the Community Supported Art model of Springboard for the Arts out of Minneapolis and is the first CSA program in the Northwest Indiana region.

For a limited time, people interested in local art can buy a package that includes work by 8 different Valparaiso artists for one affordable price. Buyers, our “shareholders,” not only support artists in their community, but also make a direct impact by building and sustaining the arts—an important ingredient for a healthy, diverse and vibrant Valparaiso.

CSA Valpo launches this year with eight amazing, local, emerging and mid-career artists representing a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, drawing, mixedmedia and sculpture. Shareholders will have the opportunity to support new works by these artists created only for this project, and have the opportunity to meet the artists at an exclusive event in early spring. Only 50 shares will be sold. Shares are $150.00 plus sales tax, and a pick up celebration will occur in May.

Artists participating in our inaugural season are Gregg Hertzlieb, Aimee Tomasek, Frank Rigg, Melissa Washburn, Robin Janota, Joseph Gonzalez, Hannah Hammond-Hagman, and David Summers. Sponsorship is provided by The Great Frameup of Valparaiso.
