Featured 2015 Winter/Spring Classes at LCA

2015-Featured-Winter-Spring-Classes-LCALubeznik Center for the Arts has 15 exciting classes to choose from for children, teens, and adults, including the popular Masters and Merlot Workshop on February 25.

One day workshops are perfect for those who don't have the time to commit to a full class schedule. Daring Derby Hat Making is back by popular demand where students will create and trim a unique hat suitable for the Kentucky Derby with local fascinator celebrity, Amanda Joyner. Students will leave with a finished hat and enjoy treats courtesy of Bowler Man Confections. In Fused Glass, also returning this season, students will learn the fundamentals of glass while they create a glass tile and jewelry pieces.

Those looking to commit to a longer session have six different visual art classes to choose from. Returning for the third time in a row, is Adult Photography taught by LCA's very own Administrative Manager, Natalie Mills. Students interested in taking better pictures will gain an understanding of how to use settings on the camera as Natalie covers terminology, techniques, and craft during the course of this class. Art enthusiasts who want to gain confidence in discussing contemporary art are encouraged to register for Art Appreciation with Gregg Hertzlieb, Director/Curator of the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University, who will address the particular challenges modern art raises in its abstract and conceptual emphases.

Young artists have four different classes to choose from this season. Cookies & Canvas, a kid-friendly version of Masters & Merlot, where students as young as seven will learn the basics of mixing, paint application and composition to create their own masterpieces. Older students, ages 11-17, who are inspired by Manga comics get the opportunity to create their own in Cartooning & Manga.

Both Memoir Writing and Sandcastle Writers have returned for the session. Memoir Writing will offer students the opportunity to document their memories in their own writing style for their own personal pleasure. For beginning and experienced writers interested in fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry we offer Sandcastle Writers. This course will focus on using the Amherst Writers and Artists method through in-class writing, sharing, and positive feedback in a supportive environment.
