Calumet College of St. Joseph Hosts Selected Works by Jillian Van Volkenburgh

ccsj-Van-Volkenburg-TigerCalumet College of St. Joseph is proud to announce the upcoming exhibit, “Selected Works by Jillian Van Volkenburgh”. The exhibit will run from February 16 through March 6th and a reception will be held on Wednesday, February 25th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the Black Box Lobby, located on the second floor of the College.

Ms. Van Volkenburgh is a Northwest Indiana native. Being surrounded by both agriculture and industry, these two elements create a natural tension, and her work looks to find balance in this convoluted tapestry.

Having worked professionally as an educator, an appraiser, as well as an artist and photographer, these experiences have yielded different perspectives not only towards art, but in everyday observations. She seeks the similarities in contradiction and the subtle reoccurrence of symmetry.

Van Volkenburgh’s current focus is non-traditional black and white portraiture and figural compositions, and minimalist ink paintings. She has exhibited in juried and invitational shows nationwide including New York City, Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago. Her work has been included in several art publications including Creative Quarterly, Artist Portfolio Magazine, and Gallery & Studio: New York.

Presently, Van Volkenburgh is the Director of Education for South Shore Arts and the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra. Calumet College of St. Joseph is proud to claim her as an alumna.
