2015 April First Friday at LCA: Poetry Slam

J-W-BazLubeznik Center for the Arts will present a Poetry Slam with J.W. Baz as the host. Poets are invited to showcase their works in a raucous audience-juried event. Participants should prepare three original pieces, each under 3 minutes in length. Each poet will be provided the opportunity to present one of their works. In tournament style, poets will be eliminated each round until one is left standing as the Poetry Slam Champion. Poetry Slam host, J.W. Baz, is a sought-after spoken word artist who has been a National and World Poetry Slam finalist, one half of the poetry/comedy duo Beard Fight (with Dan Sully), and has appeared on NPR, CBS, in the Chicago Tribune, and numerous literary journals. He was recently named Executive Director of Chicago Slam Works, a non-profit dedicated to producing the finest shows in Chicago's live literature community.

Explore our current exhibitions Steamroller Printmaking Project and Work Local: Art Meets Industry up through April 18. Experience enormous relief prints on muslin created from 3x7 foot carved wooden plates and an industrial steamroller in Steamroller Printmaking Project. Produced by Walnut Ink Projects with a team of print makers from Syracuse University, Lora Fosberg, and local artists in downtown Michigan City with support from CH Distillery, Michigan City Public Art Committee, Reith-Riley of Michigan City and donors through the Steamroller Kickstarter. Work Local: Art Meets Industry brings local artists, craftsmen and graduate students from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) together in this design-based exhibition. Co-curated by IIT Chicago professor, Paul Pettigrew. Local companies, Blocksom & Company (Michigan City, IN) and AAA Steel Supply (Schererville, IN) provided materials and or space to exhibiting artists.
