Valparaiso Community Schools Announces Spring into the Arts Festival 2016

valpo-community-schoolsValparaiso Community Schools is announcing an exciting Arts Festival entitled: Spring into the Arts.

Spring into the Arts is a new, month-long festival for the ENTIRE community, brought to you by Valparaiso Community Schools. It is a concept organized and orchestrated by VCS art teachers who firmly believe that students deserve meaningful experiences, allowing them to showcase personal creativity as well as learn about their local community. This event combines both concepts in an innovative and unexpected way.

VCS K-12 student artwork will be featured at seven landmark downtown locations and will remain on display during the entire month-long festival. Each venue provides a unique theme that aligns directly with grade-level curriculum. Our kick-off event, The @rt-chitecture Walk, takes place at Urschel Pavilion on Saturday, April 30th at 10:30 am. The community is invited to join us as we unveil over 60 pieces of student artwork at each designated location. Other engaging Art related micro-events are slated for the month-long celebration and can be found on the event website: www.springintothearts.com

The timing of this event coincides with exciting art initiatives currently underway in the City of Valparaiso. With a combined effort between the city and VCS administration, elementary art teachers have been able to integrate technology via iPads. Spring into the Arts will feature interactive QR Codes on all exhibited artwork. Viewers will be able to interact with artwork in a way that allows students to communicate directly with the community through personal visuals, writings, or video.

Events taking place throughout the month cover a wide array of art forms and also reveal hidden gems of Valparaiso. We are very lucky to have exceptional venues all within walking distance of one another downtown. From the Memorial Opera House, to the Porter County Museum, to White Key Gallery, the Public Library, as well as the Brauer Museum of Valparaiso University, it is clear that the ARTS are the center of celebration in this festival.

Please consider joining us in an effort to proclaim just how important the Arts are to our community, our schools, and most importantly, our students.
