Virginia Phillips Artwork on Display

Virginia Phillips, an oil painting artist, will have a solo exhibit of her artwork at The Village Art Gallery in Pines Village Retirement Community from June 11 through July 15. pines-village
Phillips’ artwork will include selections from her current series of paintings called “Sky, Lake and Dunes”. Influenced by Harriet Rex Smith and German Expressionist, Konrad Juestal, visitors will see that Virginia’s main form of expression is color, with varying degrees of abstraction. Many of her earlier paintings have been identified as in the style of Matisse, Gauguin and VanGogh. Artwork of all sizes will be included in this exhibit, from a huge close-up of a rubber plant on a kelim rug to 5 x 7 note cards.

Virginia grew up in Chicago and in 1953 began working for Marc T. Nielsen Interiors as an interior designer and later bought the design business and associated antique shop located in Suman Valley, near Valparaiso. Her award winning oil paintings may be found in collections throughout the United States and abroad, and the National MS Society has used several of her images as note cards.

Pines Village Retirement Community is located at 3303 Pines Village Circle, Valparaiso. Gallery hours for this exhibit are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
