Strawberry Fields Serves Meals with a Side of Hospitality

The best restaurants are the ones that feel welcoming and familiar, even when it’s your first time dining in them. Strawberry Fields Pancake House exudes such a warmth. When you walk in, you’re struck by the inviting scent of freshly brewed coffee floating from customers’ mugs on a diner-style counter. Even more inviting is the sight of the restaurant’s owner getting up from the counter to greet you.

Harry Les, owner of Strawberry Fields, has been in the restaurant business for 43 years. With all of his experience, he knows the value of a good meal and a happy customer. In its first year and a half of business, Strawberry Fields has already garnered some regulars.

“Every day, we have our return customers who come join us,” Les said. “We try to give better service each and every day, so we can have more new customers become regulars.”

Les has owned and operated restaurants in Schererville, Highland, and in Illinois cities Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, and New Lenox. Strawberry Fields, located in the crest of Crown Point and Winfield, is his newest venture.

For now, Les is relishing the ebbs and flows of each day in the restaurant’s quieter corner of the Region.

“Of course, we’d like to stay busy all day if we could,” Les said. “But sometimes, it’s nice and quiet and we have a chance to focus.”

Strawberry Fields has the best of everything. From the service to the menu to the daily specials to the warm atmosphere, the restaurant has the makings of a go-to stop for families and friends. Even just making a pit stop for a cup of good coffee at that diner-style counter is a tempting idea.

When asked what his favorite aspect of Strawberry Fields is, Les gave an earnest, short, and sweet answer.

“Everything,” Les said. “We’ve got a good menu, we’ve got good customers. Everything.”

One of the families dining at Strawberry Fields had a delectable-looking breakfast spread out on their table. The kids were especially excited to show off their orders.

“I got pancakes,” one girl said.

“I got pancakes, too!” another of the girls said. “They’re huge!”

Strawberry Fields has something for everyone.

Les hopes that, in time, Strawberry Fields traffic will become as heavy at Strawberry Fields as it is in his other locations, such as The Pancake Club in Schererville. But for now, he’s looking forward to getting to know his customers and serving them some extra hospitality.

“You never know what day God is going to give miracles,” Les said. “He gives a lot of miracles here, with our great customers.”
