Official 2012 Porter County Calendar of Events Guide Available

Indiana-Dunes-Tourism-2012-CalendarThe official 2012 Porter County Calendar of Events guide, which includes events like Chesterton’s Wizard of Oz Festival, Valparaiso’s Popcorn Festival, Portage’s Elvis FANtasy Fest and the Kouts Pork Fest, is now available.

The free guide, produced by Indiana Dunes Tourism, the official tourism bureau of Porter County, is being distributed to select tourism partners and potential visitors. It is also available at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, located at 1215 N. State Road 49 in Porter.

Indiana Dunes Tourism Executive Director Lorelei Weimer said the Calendar of Events publication is a valuable tool that residents can use to find fun things to do in each community.

She also encourages area residents to invite their friends and family members from out of town to visit and check out the many events that take place throughout the year. While the guide is a useful resource to local residents, it is also designed to encourage visitors to extend their stays by letting them know all there is to do in our communities.

This year’s guide features everything from live theater performances, to farmers markets to events like Porter County Fair and the Sand Sculpture Contest at Indiana Dunes State Park,” Weimer said.

The guide, which includes about 150 festivals and events, features a cover shot of a girl in a popcorn box costume walking in last year’s Popcorn Festival parade.

Weimer said people can also visit www.IndianaDunes.com/events throughout the year for the most updated event information. That web page also has a link where organizations can submit their events for inclusion on the website.

Weimer encourages people to call the Visitor Center at 219-926-2255 if they have any questions or if they would like to request a guide. People can also visit www.IndianaDunes.com/destination-guides to view the guide electronically.
