After the success of 2012’s 1st Annual Good Life Awards benefit, Ideas in Motion Media will bring back the fundraising event for a 2nd year at Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grill.

The Good Life Awards party will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 6-9pm and will honor six recipients who have gone above and beyond to impact the IIMM good news networks - ValpoLife.com, PortageLife.com, LaPorteCountyLife.com, and soon, NWIndianaLife.com - in a positive manner. Each winner will be honored with a custom solid steel “Good Life Award”, designed and crafted by Industrial Revolution owner Mike Lesson.

Last year, $2,500 was raised and proceeds from the event went to benefit the Porter County Career and Technical Center and the Valpo Schools Foundation, two of the earliest organizations to get involved with ValpoLife.com when it first launched in 2009. This year, the event will benefit the Portage Township YMCA and the United Way of La Porte County, two other early adopters of the LIFE networks for PortageLife.com and LaPorteCountyLife.com, respectively.

Individual tickets are available for $30 a piece through the Ideas in Motion Media office, located at 5 Napoleon Street in Valparaiso. Tickets will be available for purchase through credit card or check, and reservations will be accepted over the phone or in person. Food for the party will be provided by Industrial Revolution, and entertainment will be provided by the crew at 27 Entertainment.

“The Valpo Schools Foundation was honored to be the beneficiary of last year’s inaugural Good Life Awards program. The foundation relies on these funds to provide classroom grants for Valpo teachers and scholarships for graduating seniors at VHS,” said Rob Thorgren, President of the Valpo Schools Foundation. “Ideas in Motion Media is a group that cares about education and the community, and it shows!”

"The significant donation from ValpoLife and PortageLife for the Good Life Awards will allow us to enhance our student incentive program," explained Jon Groth, recipient of a Good Life Award and Director of the PCCTC. "At the Porter County Career and Tech Center, we try to catch students doing the right thing. Everyone does better when they are recognized for achievement and even small rewards can make a difference. This donation allows us to enhance our Outstanding Student Award program and allow us to take students to the Chicago Auto Show for an incentive trip."

What did last year’s winners have to say?

Olga Velazquez: "The Good Life Awards creator Chris Mahlmann finds yet another way to explore and celebrate the magical bond that is formed when we focus on what is right about ourselves, our families and our communities.”

Cathy Brown: "At ValpoLife, you are rewarded for being a Good person. That's all. Nothing more. This award was a complete surprise to me; both figuratively and literally. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could win an award for doing Good, being Good, and supporting Good. Well, I did. And it has enhanced and changed me every day that I have woken up since. I feel honored and privileged to have won this award. It will always be my greatest achievement, and it motivates me to stay positive and make every day Good for those around me."

Jon Groth: "The Good Life award is my most cherished award. I believe success breeds success and that catching people doing the right thing is the best way to encourage excellence. I am grateful for the leadership of Valpo/PortageLife in our community."

Natalie Mahlmann:“I was very touched to receive this award from my husband and to be recognized for leading a GOOD-LIFE. It was an honor to be included in this inaugural group of amazing people. I am happy to be a part of all that is GOOD going on in our communities and proud to be the even stronger woman behind a strong man.”

Ivan Bodensteiner: "I was honored to be included in the first class of recipients of the “Good-Life” awards in 2012.  Such an award is certainly consistent with the goal of Ideas in Motion Media to emphasize the positive in the communities it serves.  The emphasis on positive news is important not because it is designed to mask the negative, but rather because positive news is often less sensational and tends to get buried.  Thanks to Ideas in Motion Media, the image of Valparaiso, Portage, LaPorte County and Northwest Indiana in general is greatly enhanced!"
