Suicide Prevention Event, Life Fest 2013, Scheduled for Early June!

Life-Fest-2012-1A handful of young Chesterton residents will be hosting the second annual Life Fest throughout the town of Chesterton on Sunday, June 2nd, 2013. Inspiration for this charitable event stemmed from the consistently growing number of suicides throughout the community. All proceeds of this awareness-oriented event will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Life Fest 2013 is designed to appeal to a wide variety of individuals, and members from all age groups are encouraged to attend

The morning will begin with the Potterthon Skate Competition, starting at 11 A.M. at Chesterton’s Skate Park. Registration will cost $10 and competitors may participate in either the novice or expert categories. Included in the registration fee is a complimentary Life Fest t-shirt. Race day registration is acceptable. Various gift cards can be won, and the 1st place Expert prize is a new skateboard. The contest will be judged by a panel of local youth who are not formally participating themselves. Spectators are strongly encouraged!

The final component of Life Fest 2013 will include a concert called Reach Out and Rock, a line-up of live bands and music at the gazebo in Thomas Centennial Park. Music will be playing from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free; however, family-fun activities such as face painting, a moon bounce, nail art, and more will require slight costs.. Bring some extra cash to buy tee-shirts, bracelets, and refreshments!

Life Fest 2013 will be more focused on the educational and awareness factor in this fight against suicide, so be sure to take advantage of the local mental health professionals that will be attending our event. Please come out and support our effort to provide awareness over this serious issue. Help to make Life Fest 2013 a fun and successful community event!
