SSCVA Teams Up with Shady Creek Winery to Help Promote Local Businesses

In the beginning of July, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (SSCVA) launched their new local promotion event called 30 Stops in 30 Days in conjunction with Family Express. The South Shore Tour Mobile and SSCVA representatives will be visiting thirty locations in North West Indiana to aid visitors and community members in learning more about locally ran businesses and attractions.

This event is also celebrating the SSCVA’s 30th anniversary of helping advertise what makes up the tourism and hospitality industry along the South Shore area. Rik Piszczek, SSCVA’s Visitor Services Manager, was in charge of scheduling the South Shore Tour Mobile’s stops in collaboration with special events coordinator, Bethany Randolph. A highly collaborative effort with various partners, festivals, cities, and towns made this event possible for the SSCVA.

“Family Express has sponsored us a great deal and was kind enough to donate a daily $25 Family Express gift card and the $2,000 Family Express gift card that will be given away at the end of our tour on the 30th,” Piszczek said. “We also do pit stops at different Family Express locations and will attend the grand opening of the Family Express in Crown Point.”

As a designated stop on the 30 day tour, Shady Creek Winery provided great service to the local community and some lingering 4th of July tourists. Their amazing wine, friendly staff, easy-going customers, and relaxing atmosphere truly made the afternoon enjoyable and not one to forget. Dave Marciniak, a local guitar player and singer, contributed to the entertainment for the day as well.

A conjoined love of wine and expertise in the elements of wine making brought Shady Creek Winery to life.

“We are a family owned business working together in the La Porte community. Farmers from the Lake Michigan Shore AVA provide the grapes in a lot of our white and some red wines while our dry reds are made from Californian grapes,” Jim Anderson, one of the owners of Shady Creek Winery, said.

The family ferments, blends, ages, bottles, and sells their beverages to the public for favorable and affordable prices. They also welcome local artists to display their artworks and handcrafted jewelry for the public to buy.

“We were contacted by the South Shore Visitors Bureau and asked if we would like to host one of their designated event days. We were and still are honored to be spreading awareness to Northwest Indiana about local businesses,” Anderson said.

The SSCVA is profoundly active in marketing and helping businesses raise awareness of their trades. They are viewed as a very important partner to those who they are associated with in the community.

Throughout the tour, mini Frisbees, coupons, beach balls, water park passes, baseball tickets, gift cards, key chains, and prize packs will be available to the public—these freebies vary depending on the location of the South Shore Tour Mobile. Stops will be made in Merrillville, Crown Point, Highland, Hobart, Cedar Lake, Portage, Michigan City, Valparaiso, Gary, Porter, Rensselaer, Hammond, Munster, Schererville, St. John, and Fair Oaks.

This month long event will end at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond on the 30th.

“30 Stops in 30 Days highlights some great things about Northwest Indiana throughout La Porte, Porter, and Lake County. We visit festivals and local businesses, like Shady Creek Winery, that not many people know about just yet. It’s a great way to discover what is in your backyard and also get information about your local area that you might not know about,” Piszczek said in closing.
