United Way Youth Council Hosts Dance Marathon

unitedway portercountyUnited Way of Porter County's high school council, the Power of Youth, will host the first county wide dance marathon for high school students. The LIVE UNITED Dance Marathon will be held at the Portage Township YMCA on Friday, February 28th, 6:00pm-12:00am. Students will enjoy six hours of DJ'ed music, donated food, games and a dance off competition, all for $10 if pre-registered online or $12 at the door. All Porter County high school students are invited and encouraged to visit www.unitedwaypc.org/dance-marathon for more details.

All funds raised will contribute to the Power of Youth's student led grant allocation to be held this spring. Recognizing that low self-esteem contributes to a multitude of teen issues, the students chose to focus on addressing youth self-esteem. Last year the council funded $10,000 for programs through Family & Youth Services Bureau, Hilltop Neighborhood House, the Visiting Nurses Association's Phoenix Center and Family House.

Council coordinator and United Way of Porter County staff member, Mackenna Dickt is thrilled to see this event come to fruition. "The council has been looking for the perfect way to engage peers in their cause. The LIVE UNITED Dance Marathon is both an entertaining event for students and a safe Friday night alternative that parents can agree with."
