Oktoberfest in Valpo Features Local Craft Beers, German Dinner, Gnome Zone for Kids, Pumpkin Patch and More!

2014-Oktoberfest-St-PaulYou don’t have to travel to German to enjoy the spirit of their annual fall celebration. For the second year, Saint Paul Catholic School will host Oktoberfest on Friday, October 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 1755 West Harrison Boulevard in Valparaiso. The evening provides an affordable fun-filled night for all ages!

Oktoberfest 2014 will feature an authentic biergarten with craft beers from Shoreline Brewery, a German dinner, hayrides, live music by Jay Fox and the Bavarian Band, face painting, a bake sale, an artisan market, and the incredibly popular Gnome Zone for kids. For just $10 in advance and $13 at the event, children receive a wristband entitling them to unlimited fun in the Gnome Zone which includes a petting zoo, three bounce houses, a 68-foot inflated obstacle course, a giant slide, a bungee run, and traditional festival games with prizes. In addition, Lakeshore Paws will host an adoption event at Oktoberfest. Ben’s Pretzels and Valpo Velvet will also offer tasty treats throughout the night. Competitions will be held for middle school students including a pumpkin pie eating contest, pierogi toss, pumpkin seed spitting contest and a stein of cider relay race. A new addition to this year’s event is a pumpkin patch featuring hundreds of farm-fresh pumpkins from Smoker Farms. All event proceeds will benefit the school which has a student body of 325 children from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Oktoberfest 2014 will take place rain or shine. A 6,000 square foot dining and biergarten tent will provide plenty of protection from the elements, and in the event of inclement weather, the Gnome Zone will be moved into the school gym.
