A cavalcade of classic cars took off for the second annual South Shore Regional Car Show on Thursday. Nearly 200 classic rides were on display for the audience.
Spero Batistatos, President/CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, spearheaded the show.
“Any time you can get outside this time of year and put together a nice event, I think it’s very consistent with what our brand is,” Batistatos said. “Our brand is family-friendly fun, and families can definitely come out and enjoy this event.”

The South Shore CVA thought tonight’s location, Fair Oaks Farms, was a prime choice for the event.
“The venue is great, and it was beautiful outside,” Katie Holderby, Executive VP of the South Shore CVA, said. “I think the [show] is as successful as it is because of the venue and the weather. Thank you to Fair Oaks Farms for hosting us and thank you to our sponsors for helping us out today.”
Batistatos seeks to extend the CVA’s reach across Northwest Indiana. This show, which included an awards ceremony for the top 45 cars, has served as a big-ticket item over the past two years.
“We like being down in Newton County [because] they are one of our partners,” Batistatos said. They have hired us to be their convention bureau, so we need to have events everywhere in the five counties we serve. This is one of the bigger things we do down here, so we are happy to be here. I also love looking at all of the different cars.”
Holderby used the gathering as an opportunity to reflect to a simpler time. A smile spread across her face as she spoke of days gone by.
“My favorite part about today is the variety of cars that are here,” Holderby said. I don’t have a favorite car, but I like the hot rods. I like the [cars] from the ‘60s and ‘70s, right around the time I was born.”
The assortment of automobiles was immense. Cars ranging from the 1959 Ford Skyliner to the 1971 Buick Riviera made this show one to remember.
