The Hobart Chamber of Commerce held their inaugural Brickie Bag Bowl on Sunday afternoon, despite the rain, at the Elks lodge in Hobart, 3580 W 61st Ave, Hobart, IN 46342. The Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor was there, as well as bean bag teams from as far away as South Bend, and regular attendees of the Elks Club.

The event included 50/50 raffle tickets, food, open bar, t-shirts for sale for $10 apiece, raffle tickets available for purchase for a Chinese auction, a five man standing contest, and last but not least a bean bag tournament.
The mission of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce is to advocate, foster, and assist Chamber Members to grow their businesses through a series of programs, events, and community based partnerships. This particular event, chaired by Donette Heinze, helped support and raise money for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. The Brickie Bag Bowl started at 10am, registration at 12pm and the tournament began at 1pm.
The event was quite successful in raising money for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce as more than 18 teams entered the double elimination tournament.
“This is the first year we’ve done this, so our hopes and dreams are always great,” said Heinze. “We’re actually very glad for the rain today, and we’re hoping it will bring more people out. We’ve been looking for something new to do to raise some money for operating expenses for the Chamber and the goal is to have as many people here as we can, we had a great turnout for sponsors and for our raffle prizes. This should be a very fun event.”
And that it was, especially with music playing and an open bar, many stayed and played all afternoon. Some of the sponsors for this event included State Farm, T’s Pizza, and Absolutely Dry, all of which the Hobart Chamber of Commerce is very thankful for.
“I think this event is nice in particular because it’s drawing people in from outside the immediate area. There’s teams here from South Bend and some other areas,” said Mayor Snedecor. “It’s drawing people in, and showing support back to the Chamber of Commerce. It’s one more thing that the Chamber is doing to try to generate support, and it’s kind of a neat idea, I mean, even though it’s raining outside you can still come inside and have some fun today. It’s what it all amounts to; supporting the Chamber.”
Overall, this fun event allowed people to listen to music, play bean bags, and have a good time while supporting the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. For this being the first time that the Brickie Bag Bowl has ever happened, the coordinators of the event see it happening again in the future, undoubtedly.
