Calumet College of St. Joseph To Hold 2018 Gala

The Board of Trustees of Calumet College of St. Joseph cordially invites you to the 53rd Annual Scholarship Gala on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster, IN. The Gala is the College’s signature fundraising event.

With close to 90 percent of our students eligible for financial aid, it is often a scholarship that can be a deciding factor on whether a student will be able to achieve their dreams of higher education. Support of the Scholarship Gala will help make education possible for deserving students. We hope you can join us for this special occasion.

The 2018 Honorees are:

The St. Joseph the Worker Award: Mr. Frank Schilling.
Mr. Schilling is president of Schillings, a family-owned company for three generations. He and his wife, Shirley, were the guiding force behind The Shrine of Christ’s Passion, which is loved by people of all faiths. It is estimated that 150,000 to 200,000 people visit the shrine every year.

The Br. Gerard Von Hagel Alumni Award: Mr. Augusto Flores, Jr.
Mr. Flores came to the United States at the age of six from the rural mountains of Puerto Rico. His family wanted to share in the American dream. His father chose East Chicago to live and he worked in the steel mill. Mr. Flores became a police officer and held various law enforcement position in East Chicago for decades ending his career as Chief of Police. As a result of his leadership, crime figures decreased, gang activity decreased, and many unsolved homicides were solved. He is a member of the graduating class of 1995.

The Corporate Leadership Award: Burke Costanza & Carberry LLP.
The law firm of Burke Costanza and Carberry have used their expertise to advocate for those trying to have their voice heard. In addition to specializing in business and personal services, alternate dispute resolution, civil litigation, and business and personal services, they are also helping those in need of assistance with immigration issues. Members of the firm have shared their knowledge with the students of Calumet College of St. Joseph on many occasions as well as with the community at large.
