Not your most likely partners, Walmart, Valpo Velvet, Pikk’s, Centier Bank and South Bend Chocolate.jano-concerts-on-square-logoThese are just a few of the more than 30 businesses in Valpo that are working together as a team to create a festival that offers free music, free food samplings from more than 11 downtown restaurants, kids activities, dancing and socializing all on the court house lawn in downtown Valpo.

The unique concept called Jano Concerts on the Square has become a new Valpo tradition. The free festival intends to bring people downtown creating appreciation and loyalty for their hometown.

The Jano Concerts on the Square offer these events at no cost; however, citizens can give back by purchasing raffle tickets to benefit Valpo Parks and Café Manna. Over 30 businesses are donating prizes for both concerts, including a Specialized Road Bike. Cash donations are also welcome. People are also asked to bring canned vegetables to the concert for the food pantry.

“The spirit of working together and supporting our downtown and its charities lives strong in Valpo,” said Jim Jano, festival committee member. “I’m very proud to live in such a generous community.”

This year’s concerts are set for Saturday, June 19 and July 17.
