The Friends of the Porter County Public Library System was established in 1985 and have raised over $750,000 to date for the five libraries in the system, Hebron, Kouts, Portage, South Haven and Valparaiso. The Friends have been supportive of the System by raising money for library materials, equipment and offering support for specific projects. Money raised helps to provide funding for special programming including the Summer Reading Club and Adult Reading Programs.
Some of the volunteering opportunities include: offering assistance at programs, working library book sales and working the Friends' Book Sale rooms in Portage and Valparaiso. The Friends will begin their four-day book sale starting on Wednesday, March 19 from 4:00 to 8:00 with the Friends Only Preview Sale. If you are not currently a friends member, you may become a member at this time. The public sale will be March 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., March 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and March 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., which is the $2.00 per bag day.
