April Antics: “A Viking Carol” kicked off its opening night on April 19th at the VHS auditorium. The 2013 production of April Antics was dedicated to Alice Gambel, the former director of the VHS drama program. “A Viking Carol” was directed and produced by Michele Craig and Rachelle Ploetz.
This year’s April Antics rendition involved a wide array of performances, ranging from tap dancing to singing and Bollywood dancing. All the performances were tied into the story line of "The Ghosts of April Antics’ Past, Present, and Future," teaching a selfish performer the importance of sharing the limelight with others.
Senior students and their performances included; Tess Galbiati singing Home (from beauty and the beast), Elise Riddell dancing to “I’m on my own Walkman”, John Kotynski and Mindi Reach singing “500 miles”, Christopher Florek, Laura Gruska, Brendan Tanner and Laura Riggle playing “Pirates of the Caribbean” on the piano, Partick Dalton and Jordan Galligan singing “Just the Way You Are”, Victoria Perez singing “Pricetag”, Brianna Konrad singing “Girl on Fire”, Sabrina Pierotti singing “When I’m Gone/Bulletproof”, Eman Akbik, Caroline Albers, Carmen Henderson, Dana Khabbaz, Emma Kurt, Tori Perlstein and Neha Sehgal preformed a Bollywood dance Medley, Taylor Post sang “Astonishing”, Luke Davis, Austin Pittman, Tyler Smaga and Russell Stewart preformed as the Blues Brothers, and Greer Brown, Peter Fink, John Miller, Erik Muntzing and Domi Szabo preformed “Heartless”.
April Antics had turned out to be a huge success and brought the crowd to their feet, cheering and applauding by the final performance. The final act ended with the whole cast dancing and singing on stage; it was a perfect and light hearted way to end such an exhilarating and exciting show. Brenna Lill, one of the senior actors in the show, shared a little about her great experience in the show:
“I can honestly say that I've never worked with a better group of individuals - not only are they talented and determined, every single one of the actors and members of the acts are passionate, kind, and accepting of everyone. For some people, it's the love for the stage. For others, it's the chance to make your place in the world. For me, it's not so much actually acting or performing, it's having the chance to cheer others on and be there before and after they perform. I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything in the world! My only regret in all of this is that I didn't try out for drama club earlier, but I'm so glad I did my senior year! It's been one of the most illuminating and entrancing experiences of my life!”
