If you want to see a show with feel good undertones and celebrate the life, love and happiness of long lasting enduring friendships, then go check out Valparaiso Theatrical Company’s latest production of "Steel Magnolias" now in production.

This show has a comedic all-female cast that is sure to make you laugh and even cry. The all female cast includes:

Shelby: Hermine M. Robinson

Truvy: Pam Goble Tschida
Annelle: Alley Banks
Clairee: Marcia Gienapp

A play written by Robert Harling and directed by Becky Fox Jascoviak is the quintessential story of friendship and trust. Steel Magnolias serves up a southern slice of life that’s as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie! In the world of Truvy’s local-homegrown beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets, fears and love for one another while engaging the audience in hysterical and neighborly gossip. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they share each moment in their lives with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy’s salon where they seek the solace and support that carries them through.

Colleen Zana, President and Development Chair of Valparaiso Theatrical Company said this play has it all. She said, “Hardships we face can be made easier by the friends and family in our lives that we trust. In Steel Magnolias those friendships are brought to life with the cast and crew that worked hard to make this production happen. I have endured hardships in my life and would never have gotten through them if it hadn’t been for the support and love of my friends and family; be blessed by yours!”

The VTC is known as “The Theater That Cares” because of its willingness to not only put on an entertaining show, but for its philanthropic desire to help the local community.

The VTC is a non-profit group meant to focus on providing fund-raising opportunities for other non-profit organizations. The company’s performances take them to many venues such as, the auditorium at Ivy Tech Community College, Coffee Houses, The Elks in Valparaiso and others. The theater will also perform and produce events for other fund-raising opportunities at smaller venues in downtown Valparaiso but is currently working out of The First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso until which time we find a permanent home for our performances. For every ticket $6 from every $10 ticket sold goes to a local charity.

Zana said, “By attending a show you can say that you did your part to give back. Our funds to produce shows are acquired mostly through donation. Please give generously to those in need. ‘Thank You!”

Opening weekend has closed but there is still time to see this production of Steel Magnolias during the weekend of November 21-23. Friday and Saturday show start at 8PM and Sunday shows start at 2PM
