Sams Indiana Travelers Food Drive for 2nd Harvest – NW Indiana Food Bank

Several times in the past few years, Sams Indiana Travelers Chapter #96 has made cash donations to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana which provided meals to various shelters and children’s programs. sams-club

The Food Bank is not the only charity the chapter donates to. We also help children with cancer go to The Little Red Door located South of Indianapolis for a free week’s stay. The children must be treated by an Indiana Doctor. At the camp, the children recently diagnosed with cancer are mentored by other children who have adjusted to living with the cancer. Our funds are limited. The Chapter #96 members are always looking for ways to raise money to help these children.

Even though the Chapter's of National Good Sam Club’s logo is based on the Biblical Good Samaritan and the pledge is to help wherever the need is, our main purpose is to have fun cmaping with our RV's. Although our chapter is small, we try to do what we can for NW Indiana’s communities and abide by the pledge that all members agree are a worthwhile endeavor.

good-sam-clubWith the way the economy is today, the members of Sams Indiana Travelers Chapter #96 thought for a change, they would all bring non-perishable food items, to their latest get-together at the Flying “J” Restaurant located East of the I-65 Junction on Route 2. A Picture was taken of the Food Items brought along with the members that contributed. The following Monday, Nancy and Alfred H. Mills Sr., President of the chapter took the food to the Northwest Food Bank located in Gary. They found out that the Food Bank can use all the help that this organization can get. Both Nancy and Alfred were surprised when the Food Bank weighed the items. The total weight was 82 pounds; next time, maybe we will be able to bring more non-perishable food items.

Angie Williams, Executive Director said, “because of your chapter’s help, other organizations, including individuals, and various businesses; will also contribute to the concerns for those less fortunate, the homeless shelters, senior citizens’ centers and other organizations we partner with. The Northwest Indiana Food Bank hopes that we will continue to have plenty of food to distribute to those who need it the most.” If you are interested in joining Sams Indiana Travelers Chapter #96, please contact Al or Nancy Mills at n.millsgsc@hotmail.com or call (219) 844-8727
