The concert begins at 7:30 pm. Consider this as a romantic date setting with the symphony below the stage of the auditorium at the same level of as the table seating. When the orchestra is arranged this way, there is very little use of sound reinforcement, leaving a fresh acoustic sound. This will accentuate Jackie Allen, a world class jazz artist who sings in an intimate, cabaret style. Expect to hear a wide sampling of her newest CD, Starry Night, first performed with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra with "star" themed songs such as: Stardust, Vincent, So Many Stars, Moon of Deception, Lost in the Stars, and a medley with Star Wish, Hushabye Mountain and the Starlighter. Jackie's first time in LaPorte was at the Hoosier STAR competition in September when she appeared as a judge. She sang while the votes were being tabulated for the vocal competition. The audience was mesmerized by her charming, sophisticated and dreamy expression of each phrase. She dedicated the song to all of the finalists who dream of stardom.

LaPorte-Symphony-Jackie-Allen-Hans-Sturm-2Hans Sturm, Double Bassist will also perform. More than Jackie's husband, Hans is a world class musician, professor at Nebraska University and a leading force in the world of string bass performers. His piece in the second half of the show is Carmen Fantasy for Double Bass by Frank Proto and will demonstrate his remarkable gift for music.

The performances by Jackie Allen and Hans Sturm are just part of the reason they were invited to perform in LaPorte. The week preceding this evening's event was filled with a variety of educational experiences for area students. Both of these guest artists enjoy teaching almost as much as performing. Their student programs make jazz and live performance a reality, inspiring children and students of all ages. To assist in making that educational aspect posible, the guest artists are sponsored by Memorial Health Systems and the Unity Foundation of La Porte County.
