Critically Acclaimed Film To Be Shown September 8

half-the-sky-movie“Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” is a documentary produced for PBS that introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable and fighting bravely to change them. Filmed in 10 countries, the film reflects viable and sustainable options for empowerment and offers an actionable blueprint for transformation.

The film screening is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 8 at Valparaiso University’s Duesenberg Recital Hall, located at 1709 Chapel Drive in Valparaiso.

Traveling with reporter, Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates, America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde, the film vocalizes the different forms of oppression that women face across the world.

This screening is sponsored by the Valparaiso Chapter of Dining for Women. Their mission is to empower women and girls living in extreme poverty by funding programs that foster good health, education, and economic self‐sufficiency and to cultivate educational giving circles that inspire individuals to make a positive difference through the power of collective giving.
