The Valparaiso University Jazz Ensemble will play an evening of jazz in the University Theatre in the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts on Wednesday, November 20.
The concert will begin at 7:30 pm, and will feature guest artist Olivia Flanigan, vocalist and teaching assistant at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The concert will also feature Billy Foster on piano, Mike McGrath on trumpet, and student soloists.
Brandon McCartney, a VU student who is in the Jazz Ensemble, said the concert will be unique because there are three guest artists, including a vocalist. McCartney said, "It's an entirely different experience to have a vocal artist, because it completely changes the way we play and the type of dynamics we use."
The Valparaiso University Jazz Ensemble is the premier jazz performance ensemble at Valparaiso University. Membership is by audition and students of all majors are encouraged to participate. The VU Jazz Ensemble is directed by Jeffrey Brown.
