Songs of the Season Presented During Winter Wonderland in Michigan City

A Songs of the Season Concert involving original versions of standard holiday music will be performed this Saturday, December 12th by composer, Keenan Baxter on keyboards from 7:30 – 9:30, at Mainstreet Theatre, located at 807 Franklin Street in Michigan City, Indiana. This event is scheduled as a great way to unwind after a full day of activities during Michigan City’s Annual “Winter Wonderland” festivities.

Before the concert, one can enjoy the many festivities downtown Michigan City during “Winter Wonderland.” One can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides (2-5pm), photos with Santa (2-5pm), Barker Mansion Christmas Tour (12 and 4pm), Stained Glass Tour (1-5pm) then visit the Festival of the Lights display in Washington Park, not to mention shopping at Prime Outlets Outlet Mall.

The 2009 Stained Glass Tour includes First Congregational Church, 531 Washington St.; St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 109 Ann Ave.; Trinity Episcopal Church, 614 Franklin St.; St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 411 W. 11th St.; and First United Methodist Church, 121 E. Seventh St.

Included in the tour are some of the historic homes in the Elston Grove Neighborhood including The Old Library, 312 E. Eighth St., and the historic 1866 Feallock House, 402 E. Eighth St. Watch for signage in the Elston Grove Neighborhood. Docents will be on hand in the churches and homes.

Guest singer at the Songs of the Season concert will be vocalist Julie Roberts from Chesterton, Indiana. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for Children. Keyboardist Keenan Baxter, of the Valparaiso area is a Grammy Contender (2006) and also a composer/producer. This “Top 40 Worldwide” young talent offers original compositions in New Age, Blues, Reggae, Celtic and Smooth Jazz styles, and was featured in Shore Magazine. He has over a dozen CDs to his credit and has performs in several Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana venues.

Keenan’s signature sounds are due to the fact that, he was a composer for 8 years before even playing any instrument. Due to this unusual training, Keenan uses multiple melodies, counterpointing and create chords and uses instruments in complex combinations with melody brilliance that is bass and percussion driven. Keenan is a very accomplished composer and musician in his own right, and started producing and composing at the age of 14. He was accepted for Hollywood’s A&R Select music catalog, and attended the Music Industry Workshop in Chicago (Studio Chicago). His Grammy Contender 2006 was in the categories of Best Album and Best Record with his chart topping album, Crave the Floor! As a producer, he has produced recordings for local rock bands, vocalists, and industry professionals. He had a song selected by MTV for their “Sweet 16 show” in 2007.

Recently, Keenan completed a film short called “Scary Movie 2” that can be viewed on you tube and his myspace accounts. He also is a music composer for film, scoring an up and coming full length film “Zombie, Indiana” which puts him in a different category and skill level than your typical singer/songwriter.
