Summer Rhapsody Music Festival to Inaugurate Central Park Plaza
Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) will host The Summer Rhapsody Music Festival as the grand opening to the New Central Park Plaza on Saturday, August 6. A 50 piece orchestra, directed by Miguel Rosario, will perform selections from American Musicals. The downtown Central Park Plaza is the newest of the city’s parks and promises to be a premier musical venue for Northwest Indiana.

Big Fish Tournament and Venetian Boat Parade
The excitement for the 3rd Annual Portage Perch Fest builds as the fishing tournament and boat parade kick off the weekend before! Held at the Portage Marina, these events are a great start to this fun annual event!

53rd Annual Chesterton Art Fair
Over 80 fine artists from 10 states all across the country will be exhibiting in this juried, well-known and respected art fair. The best of everything- paintings, drawings, photography, handmade jewelry, sculpture, weaving, glass, and pottery can be found at this year’s fair.

This family-oriented event will be on Friday, August 5th, 2011, at Valplayso Park. Enjoy free lunch with the firefighters, play at the fantastic park, run through the water curtain, learn about fire safety in our EDITH house, look at the fire trucks and ambulances...and more!

Lakefront Hauntings: Haunted Lighthouses and Ghosts of Stagecoach Road
Does Lake Michigan have any haunted lighthouses? What is the history and haunting of Stagecoach Road? Join Danielle as she takes you through the John Herman, Joseph Willie Townsend, and the 1833 settlement and Stage House on the Detroit to Fort Dearborn trail now known as Stagecoach Road.

Local Universities Host Veteran Career Transition Fair
Purdue University North Central, Purdue University Calumet, and Ivy Tech Community College of Northwest Indiana will host a Veterans Career Transition Fair. The fair will feature an array of local businesses and organizations that seek to hire veterans, as well as admissions representatives from many local colleges and universities. Attendees are encouraged to research the business and educational organizations that interest them and to bring multiple copies of their resumes, along with any questions they may have.

Fireman-Picnic2nd Annual Car, Truck, and Bike Show
The Wolf Pack Football Club presents their 2nd Annual Car, Truck, and Bike Show from 10am until 4pm on Saturday August 6th! Proceeds from the show will go to benefit the Wolf Pack Football Club and the Boone Grove Football team.

Crossroads Family Church Presents The Extreme Tour
The Extreme Tour is coming to Crossroads Family Church in Portage August 6-7, 2011 at 6 pm. This musical and extreme sporting event will feature live music performances and a skateboard competition, featuring the chance to receive endorsements and tour the US as a pro skater!

Calling All VHS Graduates of 1991
Our class reunion will be on Saturday, August 6, 2011. An informal gathering will take place at a local pub on Friday, August 5th, and, if there is enough interest, there will be a family event during the day of August 6th as well.
