Welcome Mat International Fair Trade Store Grand Opening
The Welcome Mat, NWI’s newest retail store, invites the community to its Grand Opening on September 23, 2011. The Welcome Mat isn’t like any other retail store – it’s the first international fair-trade store in NWI and it’s a nonprofit initiative of The Valparaiso International Center (The VIC).

Last Race of the Crazy Legs Race Series
The 2011 Crazy Legs Race Series (CLRS) took the edge off competition and put the focus on having fun in nature. The CLRS will host its last race of the season in Bluhm County Park in LaPorte County. It will take advantage of the nicely maintained county park while offering a challenging course for those looking to get off the pavement.

Second Annual Valpo Brewfest
The Second Annual Valpo Brewfest will be held at Central Park Plaza on Saturday, September 24 from 1-5pm. Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) will host the fest which brings beer lovers far and wide to downtown Valparaiso for an opportunity to sample over 125 different varieties of craft beer.

First United Methodist Church to Host Fall Rummage Sale
The First United Methodist Church of Portage will be holding its Fall Rummage Sale on September 22-23 at the church. Many treasures are waiting for you to find them! All proceeds from the sale benefit local, national and international mission projects.

Harley Davidson of Valparaiso Hosting End of Season Inventory Reduction Event
It's finally here! Now's the time. Our annual pre-owned tent event this weekend, September 23rd & 24th. Come hungry on Saturday, because lunch is on us. We will be serving hot dogs and pop while they last. Over 40 pre-owned Harley-Davidson's will be available, starting at just $5995.00. New 2012's are also here and we have a few remaining 2011 models.

Porter County Heart Walk
The American Heart Association’s 2011 Porter County Heart Walk takes place this Saturday, September 24 at 9 a.m. at the Coffee Creek Center in Chesterton. The Porter County Heart Walk includes teams of heart disease and stroke survivors, employees from local companies and people interested in fighting heart disease and stroke. The event will feature one-, two-, and three-mile walking routes and will be kicked off with a non-competitive run

Lakeshore PAWS Adoption Event
An adoption event will be held September 24 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Walgreens in Chesterton, located at 680 E Indian Boundary. Visit www.facebook.com/LakeshorePaws to view photos and find information on all of the dogs and cats available for adoption.

Nickelodeon's "Day of Play"
The Y in partnership with the Portage Parks Dept. will be participating in the national initiative, Nickelodeon's "Day of Play". Participants will "PLAY" at the Y from 1:00-2:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 24. Participate in a kids 1k fun run or play dodgeball or open basketball with the family.

Missions in Motion 5K Run and Walk
Help support the high school students from Victory Christian Academy in Valparaiso to serve in Jacmal, Haiti. They will be working with children in orphanages and feeding centers! The race starts at Victory Christian Academy, located at 360 N 325 E in Valparaiso. A Kid's Dash will also be held. 3-6 years old will run 10 yards, 7-11 years old will run 50 yards.

Clean Out Your Bookshelves for the Tri Kappa Book Sale
Fall is a great time to clean out your cluttered bookshelves and donate to the Tri Kappa Book Sale! Tri Kappa is hosting a collection on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Home Mountain Printing in Valparaiso, located at 3602 Enterprise Avenue.
