10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Sectional Opener, Halloween Events, Used Book Sale, and Sculpture Show Opening

Time to Be a Party Animal for Lakeshore PAWS
Friends of Lakeshore PAWS invite you to have some tail wagging fun at Time to Be a Party Animal, a fundraiser for Lakeshore PAWS. You and your pet can enjoy an evening of mingling with other pet lovers and dogs, along with appetizers, and drinks—including beer and wine—on October 21, 2011, all while supporting Lakeshore PAWS. The party begins at 7 p.m. at Chicago Party Animals, 1133 West Fulton Market, Chicago, and ends at 10 p.m. All proceeds benefit Lakeshore PAWS.

Valparaiso to Host Portage in 2011 Football Sectional Opener
The Valparaiso High School football team will host Portage High School on October 21, 2011 in the opening match of the Sectional round of the IHSAA State Football Tournament. The road to State begins with the Indians, and the winner of that game will face off against the winner of the Crown Point – Munster matchup. The winner of the Semifinal game will play the winner of the Chesterton, Michigan City, Lake Central, and Merrillville pool.

Winners of NBC’s “The Sing Off” to Appear in Valparaiso!
The all-male a cappella group, Committed, will perform on Saturday, October 22 at 7:30pm as part of the Fall Concert Series hosted by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE). The recently crowned “Sing Off” winners began as an Alabama gospel group that expanded their powerful vocal performances and soaring harmonies to include a combination of sacred and secular music including well-known cover songs by the Police, Maroon5, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Michael Jackson.

4th Annual BooFest a Family Fun Event!
Come one, come all to the fourth annual Nativity BooFest on Saturday, October 22 from 6-10 p.m. This family fun event features many indoor fall and Halloween-themed games and activities for those 2 years and up! Our outside fun includes a hayride, a walking presentation of the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” in our woods, moonwalk, bonfire, pumpkin patch and delicious foods for sale.

Tri Kappa to Host 4th Annual Used Book Sale
Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority of Valparaiso is hosting its fourth annual Used Book Sale October 20-22. Tri Kappa sorority is dedicated to the advancement of Charity, Culture and Education in our community. Money raised by the sorority throughout the year is used to fund these three causes. Proceeds from the used book sale are primarily used to fund scholarships for high school seniors in Porter County.

2011 Camp Topenebee Halloween Haunted Trail
Come out to Michigan City for a hauntingly good time! This weekend, 7 pm to midnight, get your spook on. $8 per person, free parking, and concessions are available. All proceeds help maintain Camp Topenbee.

Saint Paul Catholic School's Oktoberfest and Hayride
Saint Paul Catholic School invites you to an Oktoberfest celebration and a Hayride! Friday, October 21, 2011, invite your friends for a hayride through the woods and festivities from 5 to 8 pm! Specialty brats, hot dogs, donuts, and cider will bring the taste of fall to the event. A beer garden will also be available! Kids can have fun bouncing on inflatables throughout the event!

SSO 2011 Global Expression
The next chapter of SSO’s 2011 Global Expressions season include a Hovhaness Celebration of the Armenian American composer’s 100th anniversary on Friday, October 21 at Ivy Tech Auditorium Theater.

PNC 13th Anniversary Odyssey Sculpture Show Debuts
Purdue University North Central celebrates the 13th anniversary of its Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series with a public opening and reception of its multi-piece contemporary sculpture exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 22. Visitors to campus are welcome to arrive early to take a self-guided tour of the 35 sculptures located throughout the PNC Westville campus. A number of the exhibiting sculptors and artists will be on hand to speak about their work.

The House of Lost Souls Wants You!
Come out to the Butterfield Pavilion during the last two weekends in October for a scary good time! The House of Lost Souls brings your fears to life. Can you face them and survive or will you become another lost soul roaming our hall. Face your fears if you dare!
