Annual Farm To Table Dinner at County Line Orchard
Celebrating the first season of Community Gardens and City Farms at County Line Orchard! Come enjoy a multi-course family style dinner showcasing amazing food from local farms. The meal will feature appetizers, main courses, vegetable side dishes, and delectable deserts served in The Barn. Once there, visitors can take a guided tour of the Orchard and delight in dishes made from fresh local meats, produce and honey.
South Shore Youth Orchestra to Perform Music by Mozart and Mahler
The young performers of the South Shore Youth Orchestra will perform music by composer greats Mozart and Mahler, as well as pieces with a cultural flare at their first concert of the season on Sunday afternoon, November 6 at 4 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso.
Turtle Island Quartet Brings Jazz Fusion and Hendrix-Inspired String Performance to Valpo
Two-Time Grammy Award Winners, Turtle Island Quartet, will appear in Valparaiso on Sunday, November 6 at 4pm to dazzle multi- genre music fans as they fuse a vast array of musical styles and pay homage to legendary singer and songwriter Jimi Hendrix. This all string quartet is the final performance in the Fall Concert Series presented by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) and held at Valparaiso University’s Chapel of Resurrection.
Murder Mystery Dinner at Aberdeen
It’s a normal dinner at The Inn at Aberdeen...or is it? The dinner begins only to be interrupted by the sounds of chaos. Thus begins an evening disrupted by a series of bloodcurdling events. See if you can solve the mystery before you are the next victim. Become entwined in the story while dining on an exquisitely prepared meal in the historic bed and breakfast.
"Pursuit of Visual Complexity" - Justin Vining's Third Solo Exhibit
Justin Vining's third solo exhibit, "Pursuit of Visual Complexity", opens this Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Community Art Center in Cedar Lake, Indiana. The exhibit will display a selection of recent work that contains a wide variety of subject matter, mediums and styles.
Rebuilding Together to Host Pancake Breakfast
Rebuilding Together Portage will host a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 8 am to 10 am at Applebee's in Portage. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in advance or at the restaurant on the day of the breakfast.
“Beans & Bags” Chili Cook-Off/Cornhole Tournament
Discoveries Unlimited will host chili connoisseurs and cornhole enthusiasts from around the Region at the “Beans & Bags” chili cook-off and cornhole tournament on November 4, 2011 at Strongbow Inn & Banquet Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. Guests will sample dozens of delicious, hand-crafted chili recipes prepared by the Region’s top chili makers and will vote for the “Best Chili”.
First Friday Event Celebrates "Day of the Dead"
November's First Friday @ 5 after-hours open house at Lubeznik Center for the Arts celebrates El Día de los Muertos with art, refreshments from the Hacienda Mexican Restaurant and a modern dance performance conceived specifically for the event by Élan Dance Company. Day of the Dead (in Spanish, El Día de los Muertos) honors the lives of deceased family members with a blend of Aztec and Catholic traditions including the building of private altars (Ofrendas) decorated with photographs, candles, sugar skulls and flowers.
