Each weekend we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This weekend features some downtown movie events, fundraising concerts, Relay for Life, events to benefit animal shelters, a Hot Wheels event, a fishing event and more!

Gary to Host Drive-In Movie Night at Marquette Park June 6  
The community is in for a special treat Friday, June. 6 as Gary’s Marquette Park will be transformed into a drive-in movie theater. For only $10 per car and $15 for Vans and SUVs, moviegoers will enjoy two family friendly films – “Frozen” and “The Hunger Games 2.” Gates at Marquette Park Beach open at 5:30 p.m. with the first film starting at dusk.

Step Into The Night' - A Walk to End Sexual Assault - Planned for Friday in Michigan City  
A walk to end the silence of sexual violence is planned as part of the June 6 First Friday festivities in Michigan City. Organized by the Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, “Step Into The Night” will step off from HealthLinc, 710 Franklin St., continue northwards and circle the Michigan City Public Library before coming back to HealthLinc. It is the first of what Stepping Stone executive director Kay Hill says will be a yearly walk to help educate the public on sexual assault.

Friday Night at the Movies in Downtown La Porte  
Friday, June 6th, bring your blankets and chairs to Downtown La Porte and join us for the season kick-off of Friday Night at the Movies. This is a free event open to all ages. The featured film this Friday is Despicable Me 2. The movie will be shown at dusk in the Herald Argus Parking Lot on the corner of State and Monroe Streets. Free popcorn will be provided by The La Porte Savings Bank with food, ice cream, and refreshments for purchase by B & J’s American Café and Temple News Agency. Bump n’ Jump Playhouses will have bounce houses for the kids starting at 6 p.m. until the time of the movie.

Porter Regional Hospital Host 2014 Healthy Hustle 5K & Walk  
Porter Health Care System will present the Healthy Hustle 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 7 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Road in Valparaiso. Proceeds from the event will benefit Lakeshore Paws. The entry fee for the 5K Run and noncompetitive 5K Walk is $20.

Take a Kid Fishing Set for Saturday, June 7th  
“Friends of Fishing” is excited to announce our third annual “Take a Kid Fishing” event at Rogers Lakewood Park 5320 Meridan Road in Valparaiso on Saturday June 7th. We are partnering with the Valparaiso Parks Department to provide a family friendly event that is “Free” and will be a great morning for kids and their parents(or grandparents or uncles or aunts or adult guardian or friends!)

Portage 16 IMAX to hold Team Hot Wheels Event, June 7th & 8th  
Come to the Portage IMAX to get a first-hand look under the hood at how Team Hot Wheels® was brought to life including exciting interviews with the creators and rare glimpses at early sketches of the characters. Fathom Events and Mattel are amped to put the pedal to the metal and bring Team Hot Wheels® new band of characters to select theaters nationwide on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 at 11am.

Local Shelter Kicks Off Nationwide Challenge at Annual Walk-a-Thon & Vendor Fair
 On Saturday June 7, Humane Society Calumet Area will host its annual Paws in Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a new location, Main Square Park in Highland, Ind. This walk-a-thon and carnival-themed vendor fair also serves as a celebration of the beginning of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

2014 Lakeshore PAWS Pup Crawl  
Join us for our annual Pup Crawl event 5-10 p.m. June 7 at the Central Park Plaza home to the Porter Health Amphitheater in downtown Valparaiso. Come on out for music, food, drink, pet costume contest and a chance to show off your dogs and meet ours. There is no cost to stroll the park and listen to the band. But please register to take part in the dog walk and to receive a T-shirt.

Portage Relay for Life

Jammin with Save the Dunes 
Get ready for the fun! Jammin with Save the Dunes is our signature annual fundraiser, and it draws hundreds of dunes lovers to beautiful Washington Park in Michigan City near the Lake Michigan shoreline. On June 7, 2014 from 5pm-11pm, come enjoy live music, great food, and a great time for a great cause! We will have four live bands and great local grub from Rolling Stonebaker Pizza, Shoreline, and Soda Dog.
