December is officially here! Christmas is coming up fast, and its time to start shopping for those cute gifts for family and friends. But before all that, there’s still a lot to do in Northwest Indiana. From parades, to concerts to even Santa making his rounds, there is almost too much to do this weekend. Take a look!

Orak Shrine Circus Returns To Hammond – Dec 1-3
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the 54th Edition of the Carden International Circus proudly present the 2017 Orak Shrine Circus at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 S. Sohl Ave., beginning Thursday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 3. Come and see the elephants, tigers, lions, monkeys, dogs, aerialists, jugglers and much, much more! This may be your last chance to see the elephants live! Four big days … eight big shows!!

Barker Mansion Christmas Events – Dec 1 – 3
 An annual holiday tradition, Michigan City’s Barker Mansion will open its decorated rooms to the community for viewing on Friday, December 1 from 5-8 pm Central Time. Hours and events vary by day through December 31, which will mark the close of the mansion’s Christmas season.

Christmas Craft Show – Dec 2-3
The Annual Christmas Craft Show is held at Woodland Park. We have homemade craft vendors in the Oakwood Grand Hall and buy/sell vendors in the Sycamore Hall. Admission is free to the public but please bring an item for our local food pantry.

Valpo Parks Day Trip To Schaumberg – Dec 1
Shop till you drop at Woodfield Mall and IKEA of Schaumberg. Motorcoach transportation to and from Schaumburg, IL

Start your holiday shopping early with us at Rittenhouse Village At Portage! We will be hosting a Holiday Bazaar with various vendors selling their crafts, holiday decor and much more! Stop by to pick up great gifts for your family and friends.

Valpo Annual Christmas Concert – Dec 1
Valparaiso University continues a tradition that dates back more than 90 years with its annual Christmas Concert: A Carol Festival. The concert returns the first weekend of December with two performances to open the Christmas season for the University, community, alumni and friends from throughout the Midwest.

Fair Trade Holiday Bazaar At The Valpo International Center – Dec 1
 The Valparaiso International Center will host its annual Fair Trade Holiday Bazaar on the next three weekends (Friday and Saturday): November 24-25, December 1-2, and December 8-9. The public is encouraged to come shop from 12 noon to 7 pm each day. The bazaar will be held at the VIC’s headquarters, 309 East Lincolnway, Valparaiso.

Michigan City Snowflake Parade – Dec 2
 The Snowflake Parade will step off from 10th and Franklin Streets at 4:00 pm on Saturday December 2, 2017! The Snowflake Parade will proceed north on Franklin Street and end at the Michigan City Library where a celebration of lighting the Christmas Tree at the Library and singing of Christmas Carols by the Michigan City High School Choir.

Hammond Holiday Parade – Dec 2
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the Hammond Holiday Parade Committee invite you to attend the 2017 Hammond Holiday Parade on Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 10a. The parade starts at Gavit High School, 1670 – 175th Street, heads east to Indpls. Blvd., turns north on Indpls. Blvd. and ends at 169th Street & Wicker Ave.

Holiday Magic – Dec 3
Celebrate the holiday season with family and friends at Chicagoland’s largest and longest-running lights festival. Brookfield Zoo’s 36th annual Holiday Magic, presented by ComEd and Meijer, invites guests to sing to the animals and enjoy professional ice-carving demonstrations, magic shows, a 41-foot talking tree, and special visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus (the latter through December 17).
