The holidays are in full swing here in the Region. It’s time for Christmas parades, holiday parties, cookie exchanges and office parties. There’s lots to do this weekend, no matter what part of Northwest Indiana you happen to be in!

Barker Mansion Christmas Events – Dec 8-9
An annual holiday tradition, Michigan City’s Barker Mansion will open its decorated rooms to the community for viewing on Friday, December 1 from 5-8 pm Central Time. Hours and events vary by day through December 31, which will mark the close of the mansion’s Christmas season. Popular traditions from the past will return throughout the month, including musical performances with locals Lee Meyer and Elizabeth Weigand, cookie decorating with Uptown Cakery, and kids’ crafts. Standard Christmas admission is $8 per adult and $5 per youth, ages 15 and under.

15th Annual Holiday Show at the Towle Theater “A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” – Dec 8-10
The Towle Theater has been producing its hallmark holiday show for the past 14 years to sold out audiences. This year, they have once again reinvented “A Fabulous 50’s Christmas” just in time to get you in the holiday mood. The overall concept of the show was created by Managing Director, Jeff Casey in 2003.

Christmas at the Mill – Dec 9 – 10
Bundle up and celebrate the holiday with a walk at Deep River County Park. Both the gazebo and the Wood’s Historic Mill will be decorated for the season to be the perfect back drop for your holiday greeting card. While you’re out, be sure to stop by the visitor center and gift shop by the visitor’s center and gift shop to warm up with some hot cocoa, and get a little bit of holiday shopping done. Children can make a homemade ornament to take home or add to the mill’s Christmas tree. Deep River County Park visitor’s center and general store will be open from 10-5.

Valparaiso University's Annual Advent Christmas Vespers – Dec 8
The annual service of lessons and carols is a traditional part of Advent celebrations on campus. This year’s Vespers "A Branch Shall Grow" will feature music by the Kantorei Choir of the Chapel of the Resurrection, the University Resurrection Ringers handbell choir, and - at the 7 p.m. service only - the Jubilate Choir of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Valparaiso. In this 500th year of the Reformation, German music will be at the heart of the liturgy

Portage YMCA Preschool Invites Families to an Evening With Santa – Dec 8
Families are invited to join us at our annual Evening with Santa on Friday, Dec. 8th. Children and their parents will discover the magic of the holiday season by attending the Portage YMCA event. The festivities run between 5:30-8:00 p.m. and include, games with a prize every time, crafts and pampering in our Peppermint Palace with painted nails, temporary tattoos and hair streaks.

Holiday at the Pops Concert – Dec 9
The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte is proud to present the 23rd Annual Holiday at the Pops Concert. The concert is known for the joy it brings to the community as we begin the holiday season. The proceeds of Healthcare Foundation of La Porte’s Holiday at the Pops Concert support children-focused health and wellness programs including Lil’ F.I.S.H. Club, Get Active, Get Fit and other initiatives.

Holiday Magic – Dec 9
Celebrate the holiday season with family and friends at Chicagoland’s largest and longest-running lights festival. Brookfield Zoo’s 36th annual Holiday Magic, presented by ComEd and Meijer, invites guests to sing to the animals and enjoy professional ice-carving demonstrations, magic shows, a 41-foot talking tree, and special visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus (the latter through December 17).

Shopkins Live! at the Star Plaza Theatre – Dec 10
