Christmas and New Year’s Eve is now behind us, its time to start looking forward. Most of us are setting resolutions and planning for the years first few month and the rest of us are just waiting for the day our children go back to school. But this weekend there’s still a lot going on in the Region. Take a look!

Goodrich IMAX Movies Playing this Weekend - Jan 5-7
It’s never a bad time to go see a movie, especially when its on a gigantic IMAX screen with HD sound! There are a ton of great movies this weekend, so head up to Portage IMAX and catch one with your loved ones.

Boone Grove Baseball Camp – Jan 6-27
The Boone Grove Baseball Program will be hosting a Winter Kids Baseball Camp On January 13th, 20th, and 27th from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Boone Grove High School. This camp teaches baseball skills and good training habits in a fun competitive environment. This camp teaches fundamental movements and good habits in a fun environment with quality coaching.

John Wesley History and Hymns Featured in January First Friday Event –Jan 5
The life and hymns of famed English Anglican cleric and theologian John Wesley will be the feature of the January 5, 2018 First Friday in the Chapel at La Porte Hospital. The program begins at Noon, and is free and open to the public.

Duneland Family YMCA: Parents' Night Out – Jan 5
Every Friday night 6:00-9:30 PM, Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter while you are out for the evening! Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. Cost for members - $10 for first child; $5 for ea. addl. Non-member - $20 for first child; $10 for ea. additional child. Please call the Y by noon on Thursday ensure proper staffing levels, 926-4204.

Watercolor Class – Jan 5
Dick Church will be offering a 6-week Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center starting Friday, January 5 from 10 am-12 pm. Dick will lead students through a variety of watercolor techniques - a perfect class for the first-time painter or a wonderful refresher for the mildly experienced. The cost of the class is $95, with members receiving a $20 discount. Supplies are not included. Dick will discuss supplies with all beginners to start the class.

First Friday Art Walk – Jan 5
Through its Arts & Culture Committee, the Michigan City Mainstreet Association seeks to weave the arts into the fabric of Michigan City's Uptown Arts District. The association believes that the arts are a catalyst for public dialogue, and that shared cultural experiences contribute to a sense of place, communal identity and economic revitalization. The First Friday Art Walk is a multi-venue event promoted by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association which focuses on fostering the arts and the artist who create it. On the first Friday of every month from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., local, uptown businesses open their doors to the public and host artists and their work.

St. Michael the Archangel Fish and Shrimp Fry - NWIL

First Fridays Comedy Show – NWIL
The First Friday of every month we put together a great line up of stand up comedy and/or improv in Arts District of the Miller Beach area. This month's show features King-David Lane as your host plus Jhovany Diaz, James G Davis, Pate Cobain, Danette Mark, Todd McNeeley, & Josh R. Sumrall!

Porter County Parks & Recreation Couch to Foot Pursuit 5K Program – Jan 6
Porter County Parks & Recreation is offering a Couch to Foot Pursuit 5K program starting January 6, 2018. This trail running program prepares participants for the Foot Pursuit 5K, which takes place at Sunset Hill Farm Park on March 3, 2018. Runners from absolute beginners to experienced athletes are invited to participate. Children are also welcome. The program is taught by an RRCA certified running coach and an experienced trail runner. Training is at Sunset Hill Farm Park from 8:30-9:30 am, each Saturday from January 6 through February 24, 2018.

Chesterton Cubing Club – Jan 7
The Thomas Branch of the Westchester Public Library invites anyone interested in Rubik’s Cubes to join the Chesterton Cubing Club. All levels welcome. Want to learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube? Already know how to solve? Already a speed cuber? This new club will meet in the Reference Department at the Thomas Branch on Sunday, January 7, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Free speed cube for the first 12 arrivals.
