10 Fun Things to Do in NWI for June 15 – 17, 2018

How are we already midway through June? Well, here we are all the same. Think back to those long winter days and nights in January and February and the disappointing spring days of March and April that teased us with pleasant weather only to snatch it away again. Think about that and relish that summer is here and get outside and have some fun! Here's 10 fun things to do this weekend!

June 15: Valpo Parks Party in the Park - Valparaiso
Join the Valpo Parks Foundation for an Evening Tailgate at Tower Park and Samardzija Field as they celebrate the completion of two new signature basketball courts, Valpo Parks' first pickleball court, and the new state-of-the-art youth ball field! 

June 15-17: Wehling and McGill Galleries - Valparaiso
Throughout the year the Brauer Museum of Art opens its galleries to the public to view various collections and special displays. In addition, the Museum hosts corresponding special events. All exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.

June 15-17: Incredibles 2 at the Portage 16 IMAX + GDX - Portage
Over ten years since the release of the first Incredibles movie, Elastigirl springs into action to save the day, while Mr. Incredible faces his greatest challenge yet -- taking care of the problems of his three children.

June 16: Household Hazardous Waste Collection - Portage
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the average household disposes of one pound of hazardous waste each year. “Household hazardous waste” or “HHW” are unwanted products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients that require special care upon disposal. There will be a gas can exchange at this event. Old gas cans will be exchanged for new environmentally friendly 2.5-gallon gas cans. Supplies of these cans are very limited, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit one new gas can per vehicle/family. Gas cans are compliments of Northwest Indiana Clean Air.

June 16-17: 23rd Annual Relay For Life Event - La Porte
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser each year. The theme for our 23rd annual event is USA / United we Stand Against cancer. The entire community is invited to come out and help us Celebrate those who have battled cancer, Remember loved ones lost, and Fight Back by taking action to finish the fight. There is no charge to come out and enjoy the entertainment that is planned. There is no charge for the children’s area. If you are a Survivor or Caregiver there is no charge for the special dinner in your honor.

June 16: Necktie 5K Walk & Run - Beverly Shores
Come out Saturday, June 16, 2018 (Father’s Day Weekend) for the 11th annual Necktie 5K Walk & Run. As the name implies, participants are encouraged to wear neckties during the run in recognition of fathers everywhere! Prizes will be awarded to participants with the most-creative neckties. Prizes are also awarded to the first fatherson and fatherdaughter teams to finish together. This is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your dad and enjoy beautiful views of Lake Michigan.

June 16: Schererville Parks Free Outdoor Yoga - Schererville
Schererville Parks and Rec are inviting the public for free outdoor yoga classes at Scherwood Park this Saturday! 

June 16: REV UP to Unite & Fight Cancer: Car, Truck and Bike Show – Munster
Come out and see some awesome cars, bikes, and trucks for a good cause! There will be awards, a raffle, and a free "Cruisin' Kids Parade!"

June 16: Water Festival - Hobart
Join Hobart Parks and Rec for a day filled with educational, family FUN! Enjoy numerous activities sponsored by area environmental and animal rescue groups. They've added something new this year and have partnered with the School city of Hobart to include an Environmental Fair. The ultimate goal of this event is to to educate the community about environmental issues, while providing family fun and entertainment.

June 16: Comedian at Presbyterian Church of La Porte – Munster
Join Presbyterian Church of La Porte for an evening with a local comedian.
