A Valpo Life in the Spotlight Roundup: July 2012

This month we were excited to re-launch our Valpo Life in the Spotlight series on ValpoLife.com! July has seen three excellent members of the Valparaiso community featured as part of the series. Be sure to take a look at those articles if you missed them initially and be sure to keep checking back every Wednesday for new installments of A Valpo Life in the Spotlight.

July 11: JT Hoyo, Region Sports Desk

Valparaiso’s JT Hoyo, a 2004 Portage High School graduate, has found his passion covering high school athletics as a videographer, broadcaster and public address announcer. Hoyo creates game highlight films for football and basketball and posts them to his Facebook page, Region Sportsdesk. Hoyo started the project several years back when he and a friend began filming a weekly football show to preview the biggest local high school matchups. After one season of doing the shows, he expanded to filming and editing highlights. Click here to read more about JT Hoyo!

July 18: Herb Hofer, VHS Athletic Director

When describing Valparaiso High School Athletic Director Herb Hofer, the terms "first-year" and "new" are mere technicalities. Although Hofer was officially hired in May to replace the retiring Mark Hoffman at the helm of the Valpo Athletic Department for the 2012-2013 school year, he is a familiar face around town and within VHS athletics. Hofer has served as an assistant athletic director for 13 years and has been employed by VHS for 20 years. Follow this link to check out the full story on Herb Hofer!

vhs_vs_phs_2011_sec_127July 25: Dave Coyle, VHS Football/Baseball Coach

Valparaiso High School teacher Dave Coyle was recently named the Head Football Coach, replacing Mark Hoffman. Coyle has been with VHS since 1990 following his studies at Ball State University. Coyle is a teacher at VHS and teaches an advanced and regular Marine Biology course. Coyle has been coaching both baseball and football for 20 years. He is both the head football and baseball coach at VHS. He is married to his wife Angie, who teaches third grade at Memorial Elementary. He has two daughters, who both attend VHS.
