A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Melissa Marshall

Beauty, class and a heart of gold. This week’s Valpo life in the spotlight is the very special Melissa Marshall. Melissa, who grew up in Crown Point, lives in Valpo with her husband Mike, daughter Riley, and their adorable dog Megatron. Melissa is a makeup artist at Le Roc Salon on Calumet, where she merged her business Beauty Pro’s with last year.

Not only does she hold a full time job as a makeup artist and sells Younique cosmetics, but she has been actively involved in organizations in our town. Marshall volunteered for the Boys & Girls Club of Valparaiso for many years, where she served as a board member and helped to plan events such as their popular Steak and Burger night.

She has been a member of the Young Leaders United and also has volunteered her time with the United Ways Day of Caring numerous times. Melissa now serves as a volunteer and board member for Emma’s Footprints in Valparaiso which provides support to NICU and bereaved parents.

As an on location makeup artist she helps brides to look and feel their best on the most special day of their lives. But she strongly encourages women to not focus on how the makeup simply makes them look, but to uplift and encourage them to love and embrace all of their features and flaws.

Marshall says that there is so much more to being a makeup artist than just the makeup. She strives to teach women how to do their own makeup while helping them to gain confidence in themselves.

She also loves that her career has helped her to impact others lives in so many ways. Marshall has found a wonderful means to help raise money and awareness through her talent for families.

She created beautiful lip-glosses such as the Miranda Sky and Emma Rose in memory of two children from our community who passed away at a young age. Both of these help to provide support and resources for the families organizations. She most recently created the lipstick for Cassy to help raise money for her best friend who is battling breast cancer.

In her spare time, Marshall enjoys exploring all that Valparaiso has to offer with her family. She and her husband appreciate the local restaurants and businesses here and feel it is very important to shop local.

Marshall says that what she likes most about living in Valpo is the, “walks around the town, going to Valpo Velvet, grabbing coffee, eating at the local food establishments, and that you can always find something to do. We feel lucky to live in such a great town.”
