#1StudentNWI: Shout Outs to Fantastic Students at the Porter County Career and Technical Center

What is Going On:
We are proud to announce that once again our Video Productions Class was recognized as the top television broadcasting school in Indiana! Thirty-three other students were invited to the conference because of their entries. It is incredible to see every student succeed and our school as a whole to be recognized. The hard work of Mr. Phelps and his students have truly paid off will this reward. Thank you, Mr. Phelps, for all of your hard work and dedication.

At the beginning of the month, the Entrepreneurship and Strategic Marketing classes competed at the state level of DECA, a business competition helping shape student’s professional skills. Two students get to advance to the international competition that will take place in Nashville Tennessee next month. Congratulations to every student that made it to state!

This past week the mentors also gave a tour of the Porter County Career to 8th-grade students at Wheeler Middle School. These mentor presentations are not just to stuff scary information down their throat for their future, but to give them positive motivation for high school.

The students were presented with all of the class options and millions of opportunities available when taking a career and technical education class and they were also shown how important grades and determination are. That is one of the most important accomplishments of the Porter County Career Center, they know how to change a student’s personal and academic life in a positive way.

What is Coming Up:
DECA Internationals will be April 21-26 and will be held in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson West and Tyler Pierce will be competing for international titles in their category and will also be competing for scholarships and other awards during the process. DECA is a great exposure to students wishing to pursue a career in the business world by giving the experience you can’t find anywhere else.

Just a reminder that on April 14th at 3:30p.m. there will be a district advisory meeting for all that plan to attend!

On May 5th, we will be inducting and presenting all students in the Technical Honor Society at 7p.m. at Wheeler High School. Don’t forget to invite your family to show their support and show how proud everyone is of all members.

Don’t forget! On May 6th, we will have our last blood drive! If you wish to donate please contact a faculty member or student to schedule a time for you to donate. All blood is donated locally and for the second year in a row, we are striving to get the most amount of donations out of all the other local high schools. Thank you for your support!

Faculty Shout Out:
Mrs. Pryzbyl, our office manager, is one of the most important people in the operations of the Porter County Career Center but because she works behind the scenes she is not always recognized. We are so thankful for all of Mrs. Pryzbyl’s help and everything she does for us from billing to helping us figure out why the copying machine won’t stop beeping.

She is a kind hearted person who is a great role model for the students in our school. She does so much for the students and for everyone and she doesn’t always get the recognition she deserves so, thank you for all that you do and thank you for always being positive!

Student Shout Outs:
At the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters Conference and Competition, KT Wright, a second year Video Productions student won first place for her Public Service Announcement for the Indiana Youth Institute submission. Congratulations KT and best of wishes for your future!

At the DECA state competition, there were two students who placed to compete in Internationals. Jackson West, a Washington Township High School senior, received fourth place in the Personal Financial Literacy category and was able to advance to internationals.

Tyler Pierce, who also placed in his Apparel and Accessories category and will also be advancing to internationals. Congratulations and good luck to these students as they compete for experiences, awards and potential scholarships!

We would like to recognize Jena Hammonds and Josh Runyan who were both recognized at Outstanding Students at the Valparaiso Kiwanis Club Meeting! Congratulations to both students! This is a great recognition that is also a reflection of these students hard work and motivation!

These students are just a few of many students who are constantly making a positive difference in their life and positive impression on their community. We thank every student for their hard work and all the opportunities they take that reflect the passion that the Porter County Career Center has for every student.

As spring break comes to a close, remember to be safe and to come back to class well focused to start this quarter on track!
