Respiratory Therapists Do the Giving During ‘Their’ Week

Franciscan-Respiratory-TherapistsIn honor of national Respiratory Care Week, October 21-27, the respiratory team at Franciscan St. Anthony Health - Crown Point decided to give back to the community by collecting money to purchase 12 home nebulizers for use by clients of St. Clare Health Clinic, which provides free primary care and other services for underprivileged Northwest Indiana residents.

Optichambers also were donated for use by patients who have been prescribed inhalers.

Therapist Olivia Obregon (second from left), who coordinated the effort, said the department wanted to show its concern and appreciation for the community, by doing the service project during that week.

Julie Mallers (far left), clinic manager, said, "This was an amazing response by the Franciscan St. Anthony staff, since we had no nebulizers and have seen a recent increase in pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease referrals from the hospital. They are continuing our Franciscan Alliance mission at a time when they are the ones who should be receiving recognition."

Also shown (from left) are therapists Lisa Holley and Ari Meux. The department manager, who also had a key role in the effort, is Georgene Paulauski.
