Public education forum to take place on Dec. 15 
The Indiana University Northwest School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) invites the greater Northwest Indiana community to attend an upcoming discussion about household toxins. The public education forum will take place Wednesday, Dec. 15 at the Gary Public Library Main Branch, located at 220 W. 5th Ave. A meet-and-greet will kick-off the event at 5:30 p.m., with the discussion starting at 6 p.m.
The discussion will be led by IU Northwest Assistant Professor of Environmental Management, Ellen Szarleta, J.D., Ph.D., who teaches Introduction to Environmental Sciences, Environmental Policy Analysis, and Toxics, Public Health and Law.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, toxic substances contained in most everyday household products are synthetic, which means they are manmade.
Some of the most common household products that contain these toxic substances include: drain and oven cleaners; laundry detergents; floor or furniture polish; paints; and pesticides.
