10th Anniversary Speaking of Women’s Health

This year was the tenth year anniversary for Speaking of Women's Health, an annual conference hosted by Lakeshore TV and Radio and sponsored by the Franciscan Alliance at the Star Plaza, focusing on what they call "Destination Wellness".

The women were treated to manicures and massages, as well as hearing a myriad of speakers on women's health, wellness and happiness.

Colette Carlson, MA, one of the keynote speakers of the event, opened the first conference breakout session, speaking on the mental differences between men and women with her session, "Truth About Gender Communication".

She noted that, "What happens with men and women, even though there are so many similarities, there are also subtle differences that can create frustrations or misunderstandings between us."

"The number one difference between the way men and women communicate, is that men use language to report, and women use language to build rapport," which basically means that women want to connect with one another, but men simply want to understand information. She expressed that it isn't a gender competition but a choice to better understand one another so communication isn't such an issue.

Marci Crozier, a competitor on the hit-TV show "Biggest Loser", and a local Valparaiso resident, explained her experiences on the show, as well as giving an encouragement to those who looked to her for inspiration. She told them the importance of establishing a foundation and a goal, so that you cannot sway from it or if you do, you can always make the next right decision.

The women were pampered and treated to a wide variety of information and encouragement, and I'm sure they'll be back next year for another boost!
