The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter is offering a free program aimed at raising awareness and understanding about dealing with Alzheimer’s disease among minorities. The presentation, “Confronting Memory Loss and Legal and Financial Matters in the Black Community,” will provide African-Americans with critical information about assisting individuals who are living with dementia. The presentation will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ivy Tech Gary, 1440 E. 35th Avenue, Gary, Indiana 46409. The program will feature two compelling speakers who will offer different perspectives on this important issue.
Jeanne I. Dickens, M.D., M.S., will speak on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Dr. Dickens is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Director of the University’s Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program. She also works at Midtown Community Mental Health Center, where she performs clinical assessments, helps lead a clinical research team and works actively with various academic, corporate and medical community partners to promote better mental health for older adults.
Anita A. Harden, Esq., is a Practicing Attorney and has many years of experience with working with older adults and their families to make sure they have all of their legal and financial needs in place. Attorney Harden serves as an advocate, addressing the concerns of aging seniors by offering a full range of legal services. Those services provide comfort, peace of mind and assurance for a senior's health, well-being and assets. She also has a personal connection to the disease.
