Join the Fight to End Breast Cancer at Making Strides of Valparaiso Information Night

Making-Strides-Against-Breast-CancerOn Wednesday, February 27th from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. the American Cancer Society will hold an information night at Valley Kitchen & Bar (55 Franklin St., Valpo) for residents interested in joining the planning committee, sponsoring or participating at the 2013 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Valparaiso walk. The info night will provide details about the walk, explain how those interested in volunteering can get involved and share information about the history and purpose of Making Strides.

Since 1993, more than 9 million walkers around the country have raised more than $528 million to help fight breast cancer through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In 2012 alone, nearly 1.1 million participants across the country raised $68 million to help fight breast cancer. This year, on Sunday, October 20th at 12:00 p.m. at Central Park Plaza, residents will join with Making Strides walkers across the U.S. to raise money to find a cure for breast cancer and help local survivors celebrate more birthdays.

Finding a cure for breast cancer begins with those who participate in the walk and raise money for the cause,” said Hanah Tepe, Community Representative for the American Cancer Society. “Together we can do remarkable things. The progress we’re making because of Making Strides supporters is nothing short of remarkable, but now is not the time to rest. We have a lot of work to do to eliminate this disease.

The American Cancer Society is the most effective leader in the fight to end breast cancer. Funds raised through Making Strides enable the Society to support the one in every two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer who reach out to us. The only organization available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Society provides personalized assistance day or night online at cancer.org or through our call center at 1-800-227-2345.

The money raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer also allows the Society to ensure that all women to have access to mammograms and treatments – regardless of income – and make it possible to provide free programs and services that improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Additionally, the Society invests more in breast cancer research than in any other cancer type and has played a role in nearly every major breast cancer research breakthrough in recent history. The Society is doing the most to help people with breast cancer today in every community and is working tirelessly to find cures to end the disease tomorrow.
