Nursing and Emergency Medical Services Students have First Joint Drill

Nursing-and-Emergency-Medical-Services-Students-have-First-Joint-DrillA first-ever disaster drill involving University of St. Francis nursing students and Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point Emergency Medical Services Academy trainees, as well as local fire departments and paramedics and a University of Chicago Medicine medevac helicopter, depicted rescuing victim-actors from five vehicles that were heavily damaged in accidents.

Some 25 students from each institution participated in the exercise, which took place in the university’s parking lot in Crown Point, on the grounds of Franciscan Point. Victims were evaluated and transported via the helicopter and ambulances to triage and emergency room facilities that were set up inside the university. The Jaws of Life were used to extricate victims in some instances.
