Methodist Hospitals Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

rot1The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Methodist Hospitals in Gary and Merrillville, Indiana, based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

“Methodist Hospitals is proud of our recent accreditation by CAP. Our staff worked very hard, and we are proud to be a part of such a great team. Our patients continue to be assured that they have access to the highest standards of laboratory services,” said Glyn Porter, M.D., PhD, Medical Director of Laboratory and Pathology Services at Methodist Hospitals. The facility’s director, Mushtaq Ahmed, recognized the laboratory staff, saying, “Our staff’s hard work, professionalism and commitment make this a great place to work and this could not have been achieved without them.”

“I congratulate our laboratory department staff for their hard work and dedication in continuing our accreditation with CAP, said Raymond Grady, President and CEO of Methodist Hospitals.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
