Porter Health Care System recently invested in its second daVinci robotic surgical platform – making Porter the first hospital in northern Indiana to offer two surgical robots. With the addition of the new robot, Porter now also offers single incision robotic assisted gallbladder surgeries at its Valparaiso Hospital campus. Surgeons Dr. Jac Cooper and Dr. Adam Conn with Associates in Surgery successfully performed the first single-incision robotic assisted gallbladder surgeries at Porter’s Valparaiso Hospital campus in mid-April.
According to Intuitive Surgical, Inc., the company that manufactures the daVinci robot, Drs. Cooper and Conn are among just 55 American surgeons who are performing the single-incision procedure for gallbladder removal.
“By making this $2 million investment in a second surgical robot and adding robotic assisted gallbladder surgery procedures, Porter now offers a broader spectrum of advanced technology and all of its many benefits to our patients,” explained Porter CEO Jonathan Nalli.

The robot enables surgeons to complete the gallbladder removal in less than an hour and the single incision is concealed by the naval, leaving no visible scar. “We get a better cosmetic result that patients will be pleased with,” said Dr. Conn.
