Bike for VNA at Lorie’s Lakeside Century

2014-Bike-for-VNA-Loris-Lakeside-Century-PR1The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Porter County’s annual bike ride, Lorie’s Lakeside Century, is Saturday, September 13th. Registration is from 7am – noon CST at ride headquarters at the Liberty Bible Church, 824 North Calumet Avenue in Chesterton.

This year’s ride offers a variety of routes from 25 miles to a 100 mile century and several options in between for both the serious cyclist and the recreational rider. Bike at your own pace along routes that include unique rest stops along the way, including the Art Barn in Valparaiso, featuring live entertainment from 1 pm to 3 pm; Lakeview Pavilion in Beverly Shores, with a stunning view of Lake Michigan; Lions Club Pavilion in New Buffalo, a Lake Michigan view with an Elvis twist; and, Firefly Farm, a 305 acre working farm in LaPorte County.

This year, the VNA is partnering with Strongbow to treat riders from all over the Midwest to a "taste of the region" following their ride, with Strongbow's famous Turkey Pie lunch with all the sides, and ice cream from Fair Oaks Farms, all included in the price of the ride.

Lorie’s Lakeside Century is named in memory of Lorie Kirkley, a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at Porter and an avid cyclist who lost her life to a violent crime in 1999. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the programs and services of the Visiting Nurse Association in Lorie’s memory. Learn more about the VNA at www.vnaportercounty.org.

Registration includes a route map and marked route, food at the rest stops along the way, roadside emergency assistance if needed, and the Strongbow lunch at ride headquarters. Riders can even receive free registration and a free t-shirt if they obtain pledges or make a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more.

Advance registration is $35, with registration on the day of the ride $40.
