Opportunity Enterprises Looks to Build Team for 2015

oe logoRunners in Northwest Indiana are excited to be participating in the 2015 Indy Monumental Marathon for Opportunity Enterprises. The team’s race of choice for next year in Indianapolis has created much anticipation among OE Runners, a team that has been around for almost 17 years.

OE will be hosting call out meetings for individuals who want more information about running the Indy Monumental Marathon, half marathon or 5k.

The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 11, at OE’s main facility at 2801 Evans Ave. in Valparaiso.

Barb Spitler and her closest friends are OE runners. The local athlete says they enjoy raising money together for an organization like Opportunity Enterprises. Spitler, who has run with OE for 16 years, thinks the runners are ready for something new.

“We are very excited about the change. Running has opened up a new world for me and my friends,” she said. “The team is supportive, the perks are awesome and the training structure builds comradery.”

Registration for the Indy Monumental Marathon opens Jan. 1, 2015 and includes choices of a full marathon, half-marathon, 5k or a Kids Fun Run. Runners who sign up for the 2015 OE team receive group training, online updates, a post-race party and more.

OE runners’ Higdon trainer, George Nietert has been part of the Porter County team since its inception 16 years ago. Nietert is excited about the team’s decision to race in Indy next year.

“OE has been so supportive of us as runners, and I try to really support their efforts as well,” he said. “From attending call outs to encouraging runners to take a tour of OE, it’s all about the connections with people.”

Bruce Nelson, a committee member for the OE Runners team, is also looking forward to the changes that come along with a new city.

“If you’ve ever wanted to run, this is the way to do it,” he said. “Call outs are great for reuniting with past runners, but also meeting new people, and learning about all of the things that come out of running for OE.”
