Keeping it Fresh with Pumps Fitness

Pumps-Pilates 2Ever had a workout routine go stale? It’s the most defeating feeling. The thing that made you excited is now the thing you dread. You want to stay healthy and take care of your body, but if you have to run one more mile on that treadmill/lift one more kettle ball/do one more burpie… That’s why it’s important to change up your routine. Try a new class, run outside, workout with a friend or many friends – try something new. Try Pumps Fitness! I did!

I did the mat Pilates class. I have done a tiny bit of Pilates but was a little apprehensive because of the crazy machines that are used in the practice. When I saw that there was a class offered on the Pumps Fitness Schedule I got curious. Pilates? On a mat? Sounds like yoga, sort of. I like yoga. I’ll try it.

My instructor was Pilates Trainer, Mary Olsen. She led the class, taking us through a pretty intense workout that targeted our cores and gave us some lovely stretches. Mary started out as a client of Pumps, taking Pilates classes to help her with some health issues. She grew to love the classes and people so much that she became a Pilates instructor.

What I liked the most about the class was that Mary concentrated on form, coming around to each person and helping to maneuver her body (it was a class of all ladies that day) to the correct position. This way, we were able to get the most from the movements while still keeping ourselves safe.

Pumps-Pilates 1The thing with Pilates is that it focuses on the quality of movement versus quantity of reps, amount of weight lifted, or the length of a workout.

And I forgot how tough a core workout can be. Planks, side bends, leg circles… the hundred. I was worn out and felt good about it.

Since there are different types of classes offered at Pumps Fitness I can change up my workout when I get bored. I love to run, but I can only run so much before I start to get twitchy. Now I can head to Pumps before work and knock out a yoga class on one day, run the next, then try a 20-20-20 class the day after – the sky is the limit.

Owners Ian and Michelle make sure to keep lots of things on hand for their clients to try. They are always looking to test the limits and keep things fresh through changing and adding classes, offering educational workshops and personal training, and coming up with great deals and promos that would intrigue any fun and fit seeker.

“I love Michelle and Ian,” Mary said. “They are very enthusiastic, special people.”
