2015 Rise & Tri Duneland Youth Triathlon to be held on July 25 at Burns Harbor’s Lakeland Park

Rise_26amp__Tri_Duneland_Youth_Triathlon_-1On July 25 2015 Duneland Family YMCA and Burns Harbor Parks Dept. are kicking off the Inaugural Rise & Tri Duneland Youth Triathlon, to be held at Lakeland Park. Located in Burns Harbor, Indiana. Lakeland Park has convenient access from I-94 at US Hwy. 20.

"Lakeland Park offers a wide variety of ways to recreate, get together with friends and have fun! From children's programs, biking, shelter rentals and volleyball, Lakeland Park is an ideal location for this inaugural event," says Kim Burton, Lakeland Park Director and Event Co-Coordinator. "Come and enjoy our public beach for picnicking or swimming with stunning views, a public pier, fishing, rowboat and paddle boat rentals and more."

The event will be staged within the park. The swim portion will be in the clean spring-fed lake with a beach for ease of access. The run will follow a path that encompasses the lake, and the biking portion will be held on the street in front of the park which will be closed off to traffic. "It's an awesome race for spectators because you can see your athlete from standing in one location" says Michelle Corrigan Duneland Y Event Co-Coordinator. Training programs are also available at Duneland Y for triathlon participants to help prepare for the race including competitive swim lessons, water safety, race transitions, running, cycling and endurance techniques to better equip them to be successful.

Open to kids ages 7-12, the categories are as follows:

Age 7 Swim 100 meters, bike 2.5 k, run 1.2k
Age 8 Swim 100 meters, bike 2.5 k, run 1.2k
Age 9-10 Swim 200 meters, bike 5k , run 2.4k
Age 11-12 Swim 200 meters, bike 5k , run 2.4k

Athletes can register ONLY online at www.getmeregistered.com/RisetoTri. An event t-shirt is guaranteed if participants are registered by July 12, 2015. Registration closes on July 17th. All athletes must have a USAT membership which can be purchased online during registration if necessary. Athletes must also supply their own bike with hand brakes and have helmets with a chin strap and must be checked in only by a parent or guardian with photo ID. There will be vendors be onsite in the event that items are forgotten. All athletes that complete the race will receive a finisher's medal. There will be 1st 2nd & 3rd age group awards for both male and female in all 4 age groups.

"This event will give kids the chance to meet new friends and develop confidence, while having the fun in friendly, sportsman-like competition. Swimming running and biking are fun and enjoyable activities for children and adults alike, and it's an easy way to stay physically active and improve strength, flexibility and stamina," says Corrigan, Duneland Y Event Co-Coordinator.
